Talbots Fall 2014 Preview
Talbots sent me their Fall 2014 lookbook; it was so yummy that I just had to share it with you! Fall collections can often look too collegiate or too dreary for my tastes, so when something comes down the pike that is fresh yet still classic and wearable, colorful yet tasteful it catches my eye. And when itโs available in regular, womens, petite, and tall? Autumnal heaven! Check out this Talbots Fall 2014 preview!
Talbots Fall 2014 Preview
There were so many great looks from the Talbots Fall 2014 preview, but I decided to narrow it down to my ultimate favorites that I would love in my closet. In fact, the first look's jacket is in my closet! Check out me styling this Talbots leopard coat!
Animal Instinct
I love animal prints, and Talbots' Brushed Animal Jacquard Jacket and Pencil Skirt do not disappoint. The texture of the material makes the leopard luxe instead of flashy. Partnering with red and black is another classic move that makes these pieces chic now and wearable for seasons to come.
Feeling the Blues
Hello blue! Itโs refreshing to see cerulean and teal on the scene after so many seasons of chambray and navy and I love seeing a cool tone featured in autumn. Talbotsโ Boiled Wool Coat in Blue Topaz makes a statement and would be a delight during the gray days of winter.
I love a feather print almost as much as a leopard and am going gaga over this Peacock Feather Pencil Skirt and Feathers Talbot Cashmere Sweater. While both are styled here with other shades of blue, I can see them easily work with black, navy, and camel staples already in my closet.
A Scarlet Statement
Red is a fall standard, but the intensity of this crimson makes it stand out. A collarless jacket is quite flattering, and I love that this Double-Faced version reverses to a mulberry hue. The Printed Tree Silhouette Dress is one of those prints that I wouldnโt tire of quickly; I could see it worn over a white collared shirt, with black tights and tall boots, or even worn come spring with nude heels.
A Hint of Blush
Pastel hues are hot for fall this year, and Talbots has embraced this trend with classic style. I love how they paired their Canyon Pink Double-Faced Coat with graphic black and white; I think this is the type of jacket that could dress up nicely over a cocktail dress or dress down with a Breton tee and cuffed jeans.
Speaking of cuffed jeans, how adorable is this weekend look? I love the Pink Blush Marianne Jacket dressed down like this, but can also envision it for the office with gray, camel, black, or ivory.
Sweater Weather
But what made me drool the most in this look book were the sweaters. The Cabled Dolman Sweater seen here in Almond has such a flattering silhouette and also comes in seven other shades. The Drawstring Shoulder Bag is a cheaper alternative to the leather buckets that have been seen everywhere this season and the tassel detail keeps it from looking to utilitarian.
And letโs have a collective gasp for the Cabled Curved-Hem Sweater in Green Spruce (also comes in four other shades); this is the first item Iโve seen all summer that makes me look forward to fall! While itโs styled here with plaid trousers and pumps, Iโd be wearing this baby with skinny jeans and ankle boots all winter long!
What do you think of this collection from Talbots? What looks or trends are you looking forward to wearing this fall?
Since Trudy Sullivan was fired from Talbots, I have been truly disappointed with Talbots. I’ve also noticed a change in the quality of their fabrics. Trudy Sullivan gave Talbots a new edge and new 30 year old customers. Some of Talbots customers were not ready for “edgy” or 4 inch heels. Talbots clothes in the past, before Trudy, did not change much….preppie, red, white and blue, plaid, pink, green, pin striped and boring. Now we are back to BORING. I truly hope this fall will be different. And the leopard skirt…..Trudy Sullivan’s design team produced a MAGNIFICENT leopard dress, 3/4 jacket and skirt four years ago…..PERFECTION!!!! By the way….I am 61 years old.
I love the blues. I also love anything cable-knit and the pine green color is one of my faves. I’m looking forward to seeing what else they will have in cable this fall. I hope they will have some quilted styles as well, or is that out? I still love the pine green quilted jacket I got on sale from Talbots several years back.
Yep, I saw a berry colored quilted jacket with a belt that looked lovely!
Oh, awesome!! I adore berry. I will check that out. Thanks!
By the way, don’t you love being able to wear something year after year when it’s kind of classic? It always makes me feel like I invested well.
This is all quite pretty! I am looking forward to wearing simple looks – I enjoyed summer, but I’m happy to go back to my uniform of black pants, slim t-shirt and a cardigan…
Gorgeous, I’m in love with all the leopard print! Great post ๐

The peacock skirt is amazing, I must have it. You mentioned when the other items will be available, any updates on that fabulous skirt?
End of September ๐
can’t believe I’m seeing fall fashions now!! but those coats and knit sweater are kind of amazing!! ๐
Animated Confessions
It is almost September, when do you expect to see fall fashion? With the cool summer we have had in the east, we could be wearing these items next week!
Smh
Autumn is my favourite season (generally and in terms of fashion). I’m enjoying the weather starting to turn and in a few weeks I’ll be getting excited about ankle boots and coats but not quite yet. That said, there are some interesting pieces pictured here… I think I’ll have to be brave and pull out my leopard heels for work.
That last green jumper looks amazing on the model but I suspect it’s one of those pieces that you can only pull off if you’re very tall and skinny… in a more regular sized person, even paired with skinny jeans, I think it would be hard not to look a bit frumpy. I’d be interested to know if you try it on for a more realistic ‘real person’ take on it!!
I love the scarlet and blue looks though!!
Sorry, US/UK… jumper = sweater
That spruce green and olive combo is fantastic! I love some of these and hope Talbots has focused on bringing their quality back up too.
So you’ve noticed that as well? I always equated Talbots with quality but in the last few years it just hasn’t been up to snuff. I was there a week ago and it seemed like things are turning around. Let’s hope they keep it up!
I have been a loyal customer for years and I am only 44. It’s funny but the only look I did not like was the chunky green sweater. I work in a law firm and that would not be professional enough. The leopard, feathers and red- all calling my name.
Instead of a sigh for the Cabled Curved-Hem sweater I let out an ahhhhhh as soon as I saw it. Love it!
Don’t forget women’s petite. Eighty pounds ago, Talbot’s was one of only three stores where I could find clothes that really fit me. Also, their Heritage fit pants rise to the natural waist — something that’s hard to find nowadays.
YESSSSS! One of the few brands that acknowledges the fact that not all plus women are over 5’7″! Thank you for the reminder!
Whenever I hear Talbots I think of my mother’s style and wouldn’t even think to shop there but that Animal Jacquard pencil skirt is sooo good! Thanks for sharing!
I love that leopard coat and the peacock pencil skirt. Do you know when these will be available online or in stores? Thanks!
Talbots got back to me, “The look book features styles that are available now (the Pastel Looks I linked to); much of the collection will be available on-line in another week or 2 (leopard pieces, reversible jacket, Red Looks). The heavier looks โ coats and sweaters, peacock pieces will be the end of September.”
Thanks, Allie!! I will have to set calendar reminders! ๐
Now I want to knit the curved hem sweater, I’ve been looking at poncho like sweaters a lot. I’m also falling more and more in love with Talbots as I get older (guess I’m growing up). I may need to add a few pieces to my fall wardrobe now that I’m a professor and got a Director position at work!
I am so loving that cabled green sweater. I think it looks amazing with the plaid trousers and kitten heels. I could totally see myself wearing that to work on a chilly fall/winter day. And still pull it off on the weekend.
Love, love, love, love LOVE!!!!!
Really sleek looks! I am surprised they are from Talbots too.
Beautiful! And I have a Talbot’s gift card in my wallet! Hmmmm….
