My Wardrobe Today – Tuesday
Purple and Olive Dress – Boden USA (no longer available – similar)
Black Leather Pumps – Nine West “Madeup”
Gold Bracelet – J. Crew via eBay
I wasn't sure about this dress when it arrived, but my husband LOVES it (and he never comments on my clothes). The waistband moves around (as seen in the pics – should be easy to tack in place), and I think I need to hack an inch off the hem. I wasn't sure even when wearing it today, but seeing the pictures I can see why my husband likes it, and am glad that I kept it.
Yesterday I had car issues and didn't go to work. I may look pulled together with my wardrobe, but my car is a bucket. It's a '99 Saturn SL2 that I purchased used from my mom when she upgraded to a new car. I don't drive it much – to the Metro when my husband can't take me, occasionally to run an errand. I put less than 3,000 miles on it in a year. So when it got broken into a couple years ago and a back window was broken, I just covered it up with duct tape instead of spending the money to get it fixed. It has worked just fine so far, but yesterday morning we had a beast of a rainstorm which yanked off the duct tape, leaving my car interior a lake. I decided to take off work to clean up the car and get it usable again.
When people ask me how I can afford the clothes I do, I say it's about priorities. I don't go on fancy vacations, I don't spend a lot on home decor, and I don't care what car I drive. My car gets me from Point A to Point B, is outfitted with a safe carseat for Emerson, and is paid off. It's not too pretty with its duct tape window, destroyed dashboard from the break-in that is now lacking a stereo (and cigarette lighter) and it makes a weird clicking sound when I turn on the heat, but for me, it gets the job done!
Oh, and the really strong smile is because some guys were working on a house behind my husband and stopped to watch this photo shoot. When we finished they clapped. Too funny!
LOL thank you! ๐
Love the dress, it looks absolutely gorgeous on you!
That dress is super cute. Love the colors, and love to see you wear a print! Fun!
Yes to that dress! Glad you hung onto it – it’s stellar.
Love the dress, don’t cut off the length! Not even an inch! I think it looks great on you just as it is!
I love the dress! I agree that it needs an inch or so off the hem, but still it’s stunning!
I have a question I wonder if you could answer: I notice that you get a lot of your accessories via ebay. I like my wardrobe, but I am accessory challenged. I’m also thrifty, and I wonder how you know what to buy without seeing it in person or trying it on first? Maybe you could do a post about that?
Thanks so much!
Sounds good to me! Lunch, swap, life is saying we need to get together! ๐
I’ll bet the price on the car insurance is right too. We have a car like the one you describe.
I am all about the no car payment…I’d rather have fab shoes than a fab car any day of the week ๐ You look beautiful in this dress!!
do not touch the hem, please – this is exactly the most flattering length for you. please please please. do compare photo with other photos where you wear the leather skirt and you will see what this hemline does for your legs. else ask husband advice. please.
Such a cute dress!
No wonder everyone was clapping, you look fantastic!
Anonymous, I fully agree that the leather skirt is very short and not the most flattering length. However this is also not a flattering length in person as that it goes past the knee and hits the beginning of the calf, hiding the natural curve of my leg. I would only be removing about the length of the current width of the hem so it still hits at the knee, but at a more flattering part of the leg. ๐
And the husband agrees right now it’s a bit too long. ๐

I agree the dress is adorable! But I also agree that it could be an inch or two shorter and would look even better.
Ah ha ha I had a ’97 green SL2 with a duct-taped bumper at one point in time!
I LOVE this dress, oh so much. I do not do sleeveless and I hate wearing a cardi over *everything* (despite my blog name) so this length sleeve is perfect. Looks great on you!

I love this dress. I just gave my 99 Saturn to my little sis and now I drive a 1990 explorer with broken AC and a passenger door that doesn’t open from the outside… oh and a window that won’t roll down. But… no car payment and it still runs great! You are right- it is all about priorities. -Allison
I owned a 99 Saturn SL2 as well! I just got rid of it in January 2010. Keep driving it as long as possible because car notes are no fun! Anyways, I agree with your husband and others, this dress (the shape, the colors) is so pretty on you. It’s nice to see you in something other than black :)!
I’ll bet the price on the car insurance is right too. We have a car like the one you describe.
Gorgeous! Love the colours, and the cut is great.
Love love love this dress, and you look gorgeous! Of course those guys clapped! Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to post your daily wardrobe. It helps!
you hit it out of the park with this dress! I love the bold print and the oversized flowers. The color combination is unexpected, fresh and different! Sorry about the car troubles. That’s the worst~
You look amazing in that dress!!
Wow, the colors and shape of this dress are just fantastic! <3
Sounds good to me! Lunch, swap, life is saying we need to get together! ๐
I love that dress and have been wanting to order from Boden but haven’t yet. I feel like you and I need to be doing a clothing swap ๐
Sure will! It’s a lot about the luck of the draw with eBay, but with accessories since I know they will fit and there are specific measurements and up-close pics, I haven’t been disappointed yet. ๐

Wow! Gorgeous dress – the color and the print and the style are gorgeous on you!
Love the dress, don’t cut off the length! Not even an inch! I think it looks great on you just as it is!
Today is in the 60s so nope, no cold legs. And I put Footpetals in my shoes which really helps with sweating feet. I actually can’t wear pumps with hosiery, I always end up slipping out of the shoe! ๐
Love the dress! It is very flattering on you.
I still can’t get past the bare legs and pumps. Do your legs get cold? Do your feet sweat? I am still struggling terribly with this one.
Agree with the husband and the clapping men: this dress is wonderful on you.
Love the dress! So pretty! And it’s okay – I have duct tape on my car, too. :0]
I really like the dress – the cut is really flattering and the colors are really pretty! I think taking it up an inch or two would be perfect!
Love the dress–the colors are perfect. Hate it when waistbands do that, though. So irritating.
And I concur about Boden sizing. It can be really variable. I’ve worn anywhere from 12-18 there.
Yes to that dress! Glad you hung onto it – it’s stellar.
Those colors are stunning, the eggplant and peridot. You look beautiful in these colors, truly.
Love the dress, it looks absolutely gorgeous on you!
I think they are sized generously. I ordered pieces in large and 12 that were too big for me, though this is a 12. The quality is amazing, but the sizing is sometimes off. Their customer reviews are really detailed and helpful.
Cute dress! I’m curious – how do Boden’s clothes run? I know they recently switched from UK to US sizes and I’ve always been nervous to order since I’m not sure if they run small or true to size.
That dress is super cute. Love the colors, and love to see you wear a print! Fun!
Love the story about the workmen clapping. I’m kinda shy about taking pictures in public. Maybe now, I’ll have the courage to just go for it. What the heck, its only pride ๐
BTW – that dress looks lovely on you!
Love the dress!
