This morning was utter chaos. I got up, took a shower, and as soon as I put in one contact (still in old well-loved hot pink terry robe from Victoria's Secret, towel turban, and Lands' End fleece slippers) Emerson started screaming as though a hyena snuck into her nursery and ate off her foot. I quickly put in the other contact and dashed in.
She was just dandy, giggling and offering me one of her toys. So I tried to nurse her back to sleep (it was 5:45am) but she wasn't having it. She wanted me to read Little Pea (thanks Nanette – good recommendation, her fave book), and then What's Wrong Little Pookie, and then she wanted to read her entire bookcase. So I got her changed and took her downstairs for breakfast. While changing her I spoke into the baby monitor, “Can you take over so I can get ready for work?” I guess my husband didn't hear me.
So I go downstairs and by this time my hair has dried on its own in a weird cowlicky, strange frizz/curl/dreadlock sort of way. A dog has peed on the floor. Let the dogs out, try to keep Emerson in one room while I am tackling the mess in the other. Yo Gabba Gabba is really helpful at these moments. Make Emerson a waffle, let the dogs back in… and one had walked through something gross and tracked it in. Grabbed the dog, cleaned his paw, cleaned up the grodiness. Emerson got hold of my glass of water and now is sopping wet, and there's a puddle on the carpet. Clean up the carpet, carry Emerson upstairs to change her sweater and pants and take her into our bedroom and dump her on the bed and ask my husband if he can take over.
By this point, it's 7:15am and I have to leave in 15 minutes. Not dressed, teeth not brushed, no breakfast in my belly, no clue what I am wearing. I make do as well as I possibly can (top and jacket were worn on Sunday), and dash downstairs and ask my husband to take my picture. He takes one shot, hands me my camera and a travel mug of fresh coffee and scoots me out the door. All that and I am only seven minutes late to work!
So I get on the Metro and take a look at the picture my husband took – what the heck? My hair is crazy, all in my face. Eyes closed, slightly blurry, dog in the shot. So I took a quick picture of myself on the train before the car filled up and came to work and cropped out my head. ๐
So that is a morning in the Allie household. Welcome to my world! However I can say that last night I got all but two presents wrapped (ran out of paper), and today finished sending out all of the holiday cards. I have off all next week so I can clean the house and buy groceries for our NYE party. I don't feel too stressed, I did all of my shopping online and my last gift arrived yesterday. My last day at work in 2010 is Thursday, have finished all major work projects, so nothing hanging over my head. Ready for a Staycation!
I am too, I totally bought so many striped tops with the 40% off at Ann Taylor. Will be many more stripes in my future… ๐
I love this color combo (I’m a huge stripped anything freak)!! Lol
blushi – so great about your blog & the job!
Melanie – I mainly ride the red line, and yep it is pretty packed!
Thanks everyone, I love the color of this jacket. I was inspired by this post from Gigi’s Gone Shopping Love orange with stripes, and am in need of a mainly white top with dark stripes for this coming year! ๐
LOVE the jacket! Perfect color for the holidays too.
xo
What an insane morning. And what train line do you ride?! I don’t think the red line is ever not completely filled in the morning… You look super cute, btw, despite such a crazy morning. I love that jacket!

Oh and you looked great other night in the black dress!
You guys are too sweet! Thank you so much!
Wow that’s one heck of a morning! However, your outfit looks smashing! Love the orange with the stripes ๐
You go, girl! It’s THOSE mornings that have inspired your posts about having the clean, organized closet, having the outfits put together, et cetera…you are just practicing what you preach!!!
Speaking of preaching, I am super excited today, I got a job offer this morning from a company that I very much want to work for, so when I start back to work 1 17 11, I will start posting regularly on my style blog again. Yay!!!
You look pretty, and I always love when you wear that sweater jacket. The color and style are perfect on you!
Lol, we all have those days… but I’m SUPER impressed that you were only seven minutes late!
That is my FAV color, btw… ๐
