My Favorite Over 40 Fashion Blogs
I was going through my archives and found a 2016 list of my favorite over 40 fashion blogs and realized a lot of them are no longer blogging. I also realized that since writing that list eight years ago, I have come across many more great blogs by women over 40.
In the past decade, many have shuttered their blogs to focus on social media. But in 2024, I see the tide shifting. So many are heading to Substack to share their thoughts instead of just their outfits, and blogs are regaining popularity. As an over-40 fashion blogger, I have only seen my traffic growing, and as a blog reader myself, I love this trend.
My Favorite Over 40 Fashion Blogs
Social media is fun, but in the past few years it's nice to slow down, read some paragraphs, and connect with individuals instead of just coveting their closets. And with that, my favorite over 40 fashion blogs.
Awed by Monica
I had the pleasure of meeting Monica on a brand trip with Soma and she is stylish and bold inside and out. Awed by Monica inspires with Monica's use of color and mixing high/low fashion.
BeautiCurve
It's hard to find over 40 fashion blogs by those who are not in small bodies. Rochelle has been blogging at BeautiCurve for over a decade and shows that beauty and style come in all ages and sizes. You may recognize Rochelle as a model at some of your favorite retailers but she discusses fashion, travel, life and more!
J'adore Couture
Kim Mitchell has been blogging for two decades at J'Adore Couture, and her personal style continues to impress me. Living a chic child-free life in San Francisco, Kim loves color, had a touch of edge but wears some very relatable fashion brands.
J. Cathell
While I love a relatable over 40 fashion blogger, I also love some aspirational fashion that gets me thinking outside the box. Jess Cathell is an Atlanta-based influencer who has a chic elevated style and creates some of the prettiest collages on her blog, J. Cathell.
Jo-Lynne Shane
If you feel a lot of fashion these days is over the top, may I introduce you to Jo-Lynne Shane, who keeps fashion simple and always frump-free. Helpful style tips, outfit posts, and relatable style abound with kindness.
Magpie by Jen Schoop
Magpie by Jen Schoop is a lifestyle blog that covers motherhood, recipes, and home style, but especially personal style, with an elevated and classic but never boring personal aesthetic.
Midlifechic
Nikki at Midlifechic loves color and living life in an uncomplicated way. An empty nester, she mixes a lot about living the second half of life with a stylish wardrobe.
Not Dressed as Lamb
Catherine's blog Not Dressed as Lamb has been a favorite for over a decade. A fan of color, pattern, and looking chic while bucking the norms of “dressing appropriately.” Based in the UK, Catherine has an intelligent view on being a blogger in midlife and navigating the world with style.
SAS for Short
SAS stands for Serious about Styling, and Beth at SAS For Short truly is, and provides it from a petite perspective. Wearable polished fashion, travel, beauty, and more.
Style at a Certain Age
I have been friends with Beth at Style at a Certain Age for about a decade and find her to be a woman of class inside and out. Over the years, Style at a Certain Age has expanded to provide style from the perspective of Beth and her two daughters-in-law, as well as recipes, home decor, makeup, and more.
That's Not My Age
Since 2009, Alyson has been blogging at That's Not My Age, providing an online space to celebrate women of all ages. Smart, stylish, and thought-provoking content about style and how style extends beyond the closet.
The Glow Girl
Melissa at The Glow Girl shows elevated California style as she travels, reviews clean beauty, and shares tips and sale alerts for updating your closet.
Une Femme d’une Certain Âge
Susan at une femme is a friend; she truly is as kind and smart and interesting as she appears on her blog. Wearable West Coast style, Susan lost her husband and is navigating a solo life with style and adventure. Susan is excellent for color theory and packing advice!
The Vivienne Files
Janice, the woman behind The Vivienne Files, is brilliant at capsule wardrobes. I first learned about her blog in the early 2000s through a message board about French Chic and I have been a fan ever since.
Wardrobe Oxygen
How could I create a list of my favorite over 40 fashion blogs without including myself? I'm Alison, and I've been blogging at Wardrobe Oxygen since 2005. I’d really love a similar list for UK fashion bloggers. As an expat here, it’s hard to know what to follow and US bloggers so often wear clothes hard to access this side of the pond.

Even though I am not yet over 40, I still follow a number of these blogs/instagrams because I think the ladies over 40 are more stylish and more practical than the blogs run by the younger ladies. Some of the blogs/instagram feeds run by women in their 20s are really just them modeling free clothes they get from retailers and trying to get you to buy it. Plus, many of them are so skinny (like size zero skinny) that what they are wearing would never look good on an average sized woman. There also is no style or creativity there at all. The stuff they are modeling is more appropriate for a college student then a working woman. Since these younger ladies don’t actually have “real” full time jobs, its understandable why they can’t relate to a woman who must be dressed to work in an office each day.
These women are so stylish.

It’s funny, every time I look at pictures of what I’m supposed to be wearing “at my age” I think “those women are so much older than me!” I can’t figure out if I have good genetics or if I’m delusional…
What I would love is a magazine or blog that tells you, specifically, what the trends are at any given time. I won’t necessarily follow them, but tell me clearly what people are wearing right now, and not vague guesses designed to make me buy ALL THE THINGS…Is the IT look red lips? Purple eyeshadow? French-rolled jeans?
This is tough because we’re not really in a time where trends are so defined. While I love that most anything goes and the world is celebrating independent style, it’s hard to figure out how to be stylish and current with such a mishmosh. You bring up a great point, one I’d like to address in the future if I can clarify my thoughts. Also there is the ability to do updates – not necessarily hot or not, but instead of this consider that for a style refresh or a more modern take on what you already own/wear/like.

I’ve learned from various style blogs: today I’m wearing skinny jeans (even though I’m not) hot pink sweater with indigo print scarf and a hot pink coat. A lot of color for me who usually wears black and beige but I’m liking it.
