What I Wore: Groundbreaking Florals

Dress: CityChic (XS) | Shoes: Nine West (similar) | Bag: Vintage (similar) | Earrings: Kenneth Jay Lane
Spring is a busy season for the social calendar. Weddings, graduations, and garden parties. For all these occasions, a floral dress is a great choice (how very groundbreaking). This one from CityChic is great because it's a heavy sateen fabric that can dress up or town and is relatively seasonless. This dress has a silhouette that would look adorable with pointed toe flats, with a strappy “nude” heel, or a statement shoe like these silver pumps.
While this dress is great for a spring wedding, I also plan to pack it for my trip later this week to a blogging conference. I think it would be pretty with the belt switched out for one that is more sparkly, or even a silk ribbon in the pink color. Nordstrom comes through yet again with fabulous dresses for every occasion on my spring calendar. I've shared above my picks of floral dresses from the Encore department at Nordstrom; there were so many beautiful dresses in plus sizes to choose from at all pricepoints and level of formality. Thank you Nordstrom for offering a good selection of plus size fashion, and for sponsoring this post.
Your ideas for belt replacements sound wonderfully appropriate.
You look absolutely stunning!! Am I reading this right, the dress is an XS? Awesome!!
Oh Allie,
You’re so gorgeous in this! Kudos to Karl too. He did a fabulous job with these photos as he usually does.
It’s too bad that most of these beautiful dresses are polyester. I just can’t wear that fabric.
Chris
Thank you and I’ll let Karl know too!
Love the bold floral print!

Thanks Jaymie!
You look stunning, and I agree with the other comments about the high-low hem really working well. I have to ask the creepy question and I hope you don’t mind: what type of bra are you wearing with that dress? Generally speaking, I avoid wearing anything that requires a strapless bra, but I’m really tempted by the off the shoulder dresses. (And I foolishly wonder if one could wear a bra with straps and just hide them…)
Not creepy at all, an important question! I’m wearing this bra from Fantasie: http://bit.ly/2paA8qh I’m wearing an off the shoulder dress in tomorrow’s post too and will be sharing the bra there. But it’s such a great bra, relatively comfortable and supportive. I have it in black and nude.
Thank you for the information (and reassuring me I wasn’t being creepy! :D) I look forward to tomorrow’s post (and really every post.)
You look smart and a bit sassy! Love it. Florals make such a statement but we are all a bit afraid of them sometimes. In our homes too!-Laurel Bledsoe
Thanks Laurel!
you look stunning in that dress!!!
Thank you!
I just love this. I have such a thing for dark background floral fabrics lately. After I saw the Donna Morgan one on you on IG, I went on a hunt for it, but to no avail. Thanks for the beautiful recs, though it’s hard to choose just one! I was able to find the DM in a navy/green colorway, and wore it yesterday for easter dinner.
I was trying to find it online and the only place I found the exact colorway was on Modcloth and they had limited sizes. I bet the navy/green is gorgeous!
I’m still holding out hope to find the pink, but the navy/green is very nice, and I got it on poshmark for only $25!
Sweet!!!
You look amazing. And that’s the first high-low hem I’ve ever really liked! It really works.
Thanks Grace! Yeah, I don’t usually like high-low hems but this dress has a retro feel so I think it works
Agreed. I like that the angle of this is subtle, not a mini in front and maxi in back.
