Stripes and a Beret at the Greenbelt Cinema
I bought this striped dress on our weekend at National Harbor. I visited a boutique called The Pinkwell, which carries regular and plus sizes. I tried this dress on over jeans and thought it was a cool effect, but I have since also worn it with tights and, when the weather warmed, just tall boots. This is such an easy dress, yet it makes such a statement. And I loved adding more drama with a beret!

Dress: C.O.C. c/o The Pinkwell (1X) | Beret: Target | Earrings: Bought at a beauty supply store | Bag: Hobo | Boots: Ros Hommerson | Lipstick: L'Oreal in Matte Traction Red
About This Outfit
This is not my typical kind of dress. The asymmetrical hemline is outside of my comfort zone but I find I really like the drama and it creates a cool effect with my body's curves. I wore it with the dress self-belt, but I may try it next time with a black leather wrap belt.
I wore this classic black beret in this blog post and this blog post, and I wear it often because it's such an easy way to cover a bad hair day while adding style. In fact, since buying this beret I have added berets in camel, red, and navy to my hat collection!
I wore this outfit to a LOFT event a few weeks ago when they launched their plus size collection. Even with the hat, I felt very stylish yet comfortable, even though my hair was a mess! I'm totally team hiding a bad hair day with a low-profile hat!
The season for an outfit like this is coming to a close. Long sleeves, knee-high boots, and that wool blend hat will soon be too much for everyday. Why, just yesterday, we opened the windows throughout the house. The birds were singing all day, and the cicadas all night.
I'll soon pack up the sleeves and bring out the spaghetti straps! It seems like winter is forever, but spring sneaks up on us and is here before we expect it. I will enjoy my boots and hat days as long as possible!
About Greenbelt Cinema
These photos were taken in front of Greenbelt Cinema in Prince George's County, Maryland. Built in 1938, this single-screen theater has been the heart of historic Old Greenbelt since almost its beginning. It has since been renovated and shows the latest films as well as classics, indie flicks, and special events.
The Greenbelt Cinema hosts The Utopia Film Festivalย every October. Each Halloween, the cinema hosts the city's costume contest, and then shows It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. On the first Friday of December, Greenbelt hosts its Festival of Lights, and one part of this festival is a free screening of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. They offer free hot chocolate and encourage patrons to bring new socks balled up for an indoor “snowball fight” and then they donate all the socks to local shelters.
I've seen a couple midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show here, the line wraps around the center in front of the theater and so many patrons are dressed up. You know I dressed up too! The Greenbelt Cinema has partnered with the Rude Mechanicals, a Rocky Horror troupe at the nearby University of Maryland.
When there's a snow day, the Greenbelt Cinema hosts a free kid-friendly movie for the kids with cabin fever in the neighborhood. Living in Greenbelt, we are so lucky to have this non-profit historic theatre that offers an amazing selection of films while doing so much for our community.
I love this dress! Itโs a great outfit on you and I love the background. The hat really does work. I cannot wear a hat well to save my life!
Many hats make me look so dorky. This one is a treasure, I think because it’s so old and stretched out!
Love the whole look!
Thank you so much Ratula!
That’s it!
I bought a beret. I had a black one back in the day, and I loved the look. You’ve inspired me to revisit the trend!
Awesome, I bet you’ll rock it Diane!
What a fun transitional outfit. I like the asymmetric hemline. And those giant hoop earrings are amazing!
We have a similar theater in the town next to me, “Cinema Arts,” that shows limited run and independent films, documentaries, classic movies and first-run screenings. Tomorrow night Edie Falco will be there in person for her new film “Outside In.” The film looks really good but I bet that showing is already sold out. It’s so nice to have an alternative to the “big hits” theaters.
Have a nice weekend with your open windows! We’re expecting more snow flurries on Monday! It’s APRIL!!!
