I woke to birds chirping, and a gorgeous sunrise through the trees. As I got ready, the sun was brighter and it looked like a beautiful spring day. Notsomuch in DC, this morning was COLD! I huddled in the car with my coat wrapped around me while my husband got his camera ready and I didn't want to take my coat off. However the day is to warm up into the 50s which is warm enough for a little four year old to race around a playground in her parka; think Daddy may be gifted with a nap today!

Since my recent haircut, I have been having a hard time figuring out how to style it. I now have bangs that start at the very top of my head, and more extreme of layers in the front. I like to give my hair a vacation and let it go natural, but each time I did I ended up looking like Roseanne Rosanadanna. Today I added Redken Ringlet and some argan oil and de-frizz serum, let it air dry almost completely, carefully dry the rest with a diffuser, and then the super frizzy parts I wrapped around a curling iron without using the clamp. There's no way I can survive the warmer months flat ironing my hair, figure I better start training it now!

  1. That outfit is eleven kinds of kickass. I love the hints of blue in the scarf and shirt which make the blue bag stand out even more. Fantastic use of color, pattern, texture and shape.

  2. I love the stripes + more stripes! I bought this jacket after you first posted wearing it. I think it has endless possibilities.

  3. You have just gorgeous curls! I know you were caught off guard by the haircut, but you’ve been styling it great – and this is my absolute favorite as of now ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I know your cut was a shock to you, but the past couple of days the bangs have been looking really good. I like the lightness of them.

  5. Your hair looks so great this way- full and flattering and easy chic- that I can’t imagine why you’d wear it any other way. Really gorgeous!

Thanks for letting us know about the products you used. I’m in some kind of weird transition for my hair (curls, frizz and waves, it can’t decide) and I’ll try these, see if I can tame it.

    1. The reason I don’t wear it like this more often is because it takes over an hour to accomplish, and usually by mid-day it has either frizzed or fallen. Right now my hair looks as though it hasn’t been washed in two weeks and I don’t own a brush. Minimal morning time means I need an easy style. Big reason why I wrote that “I Sold My Soul for a Haircut” post because saving money meant I wasted so much time each day ever since.

  6. I think your curls look great today. The bangs are mixing in well. You look bed-heady and tousled, but not sloppy. I use a curling wand to touch up my wayward pieces when I go curly, and it really finishes it off. I will have to look into the products you mentioned, though they may not be “heavy-duty” enough for my hair…

  7. I know it’s always nearly useless when other people say this — but I think your curly hair always looks awesome! Also: the whole outfit is lovely, but that bag is particularly awesome. Is it big enough to be “mom sized”? I’ve started using the carry-on bag from a set of vintage luggage in an attempt to fit all my crap in there.

Also, also: I took shameless inspiration for today’s outfit post from one of the collages you made to offer suggestions on how to wear a pair of saddle shoes. Though I am not, in fact, wearing saddle shoes. Anyway, thanks for the awesome inspiration. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You crack me up, I am off to check out your outfit! As for the bag… it’s roomy but not easy to open while on you, so not terribly mom-friendly. Even when as a crossbody, if you open it, it sort of flips forward and you can’t easily access things with one hand (which you know is all we have). Also hard to close back up with one hand. However, it’s a great alternative to a work bag, and can easily fit a small laptop or tablet and other goodies. Today this has sunglasses case, glasses case, overstuffed wallet, hardcover copy of Grace Coddington’s memoir, mini travel umbrella, gloves, overstuffed makeup bag and a sandwich all in there!

  8. I love this look! Your hair is adorable curly, and the outfit is one of those that looks “effortless” yet totally pulled together.
