We all know by now that I am a fan of Universal Standard clothing. But Universal Standard has more in its size-inclusive collection besides clothes; did you know the US also carries outerwear? Below I share my experience owning the Universal Standard Kanda Puffer and how it fits on a petite 5'3″ person.

I loved the edgy and unique shape of the Kanda Puffer from Universal Standard and how it looked cool open or tied shut. As a lighter-weight puffer coat, it is a great choice for late fall and early spring when you can see your breath but you're not slipping and sliding on black ice. It is also a shape that lets you move easily, making it great for morning walks and weekend hikes.

You have seen every single piece I'm wearing in this look before… that is except the hat (unless you follow me on Instagram Stories, then you've seen it a few times). This coat really pulls together closet basics to create a LOOK.

This sweater is the Coolmax turtleneck I wore in this blog post. There it was tucked into jeans and dressed up with a jacket. Here is how I will likely wear it the most this winter – untucked with my Athleta Rainier leggings and a jacket or coat. Since this sweater is made with Coolmax, it keeps me warm without feeling overheated.

I like the high-low hem of the Universal Standard Kanda Puffer. My bum stays warm even when sitting, but I have freedom of movement without having to open up my coat. The sleeves aren't too long and the shoulders aren't too broad for my frame. I think the Kanda Puffer would work on a range of body heights, sizes, and shapes. Universal Standard is famous for creating versatile silhouettes and it's nice to see they continue that theme with their outerwear collection.

The boots are from Sorel and they were first featured on the blog in this post from last year. They are waterproof, have a slight heel but are still quite comfortable for standing and walking for longer periods of time.

I am happy with the fit of the Universal Standard Kanda Puffer as a petite person. The coat may be too lightweight for those who live above the Mason-Dixon line or in the Pacific Northwest, but I do appreciate the water-resistant fabric, the ability to shove this into a bag and have it come out looking great (it's a great travel coat and doubles as a plane pillow or blanket). However, for True Winter, I would be more comfortable with a coat that has a bit more coverage at the neck and lower torso.

  1. love this look on you! I had seen the top on the Chico’s site, but it looks too much nicer in a IRL pic. Since it was half price I ordered for Christmas Eve. It will be comfy and casual and still a bit glam.

  2. All pretty and practical gear for winter visiting. I was wondering what happened with the tie on the Kanda, I thought maybe they didn’t used to have it. LOL.

    Everything looks great and wearable.
