I was tempted to title this post DONT CURR; today is that kind of day. Instead the theme to The Facts of Life played in my head – you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the Facts of Life. Well today's outfit is a fact of life – some outfits aren't fun or chic or terribly flattering, but they get the job done. This is more of a weekend look for me, but it was raining cats and dogs this morning, I have a complicated project today at work, and I really didn't care too much how I looked doing it. Revlon's Matte Lipstick in Wine Not makes the look a hair more purposeful, but really I'm just glad I have had my coffee and got to the office without a car driving in the gutter and splashing me from head to toe!
FYI, this dress does shrink in the wash. I washed on cold and tumbled dry on medium and it shrunk most everywhere. Personally, I like the fit much better than before (size Large regular) though wish I still had that extra half inch of length. Speaking of which, this dress is currently on sale and Gap is offering 30% off today (code THANKYOU).

“Don’t curr” made me laugh, as did a friend’s FB status this week that read, “I’m all out of Give a Damn and it’s only Tuesday.” We’ve had so much rain, that it’s hard to pump myself to go outside, much less get dressed in real clothes.
Thanks so much for sharing a more ordinary day instead of just not posting (like some bloggers) or going to huge effort to make everyday outstanding (like some bloggers). Real life involves some busy days and some 80% instead of 100% outfits and it’s encouraging to see it happens to all of us!
gosh allie, I was going to say before reading your narrative that this is just one of my favorite looks on you! I think the shift is a dark horse winner for you (and me!) It’s the second or third shift I’ve seen on you that I loved: cute, kicky, simple, clean, flattering, not too young or old…that red one you have that you did with turquoise once made me gasp when I saw it months ago! And I’m totally totally going to start hunting for shifts myself, as we’ve got similar sizes and proportions…I would have been afraid of being bulgy or shapeless in them before, but now, no way! so thanks! chin up, you look terrific!

I have that dress in navy and love love love…d it. Until my husband (sorry to pin it on him) put it through the regular wash and it lost two inches of length. I’m tall, so it went from cute to scandalous. Pout. The fit across the shoulders and through the waist is terrific. Really flattering. And it looks awesome on you.

I ordered a similar dress from The Gap this summer. I knew I wanted to belt it so I ordered a “tall.” The dress is longer than I’d like un-belted, but does well belted. I think your dress looks fine but if you’re touchy about too-short lengths remember that “tall” is an option you get with things from The Gap.

Yes yes, all you said – but what it makes me notice is an importance of our complete presentation – you look so pretty in honouring your natural skin and hair tones, and the lipstick is so complementary and great with those – very nice, smooth and happy on the eyes!

We all have those days, and it’s actually nice to hear that fashion bloggers do too! That said, you still look very cute and put together even if it’s an “off” day by your own standards! The lipstick is perfect, and I’m always amazed at how much your smile brightens up your whole face and therefore your photos. It’s probably true of all of us and our smiles, but I just always notice it in yours.
I think this is a cute, simple look. The lipstick really takes it up a notch and looks fabulous on you!
