Yesterday was a long one. Work, then I walked to Georgetown to meet my sister, then we went to The Birchmere to see The Chris Robinson Brotherhood. I didn't get home until midnight so this morning I was super happy it was Friday and I could just throw on jeans.

I went to my mom's house a couple weeks ago and she had a pile of clothes to donate. I rifled through them and found these jeans. I hardly recognized these as Long and Leans because my mom hemmed them. They are a tad short with the hem, but that was perfect since I wanted to wear flats today. I'll probably let the hem out this weekend so they will also work with heels. Gotta love free fashion!

What are your weekend plans? Tomorrow my husband has a photo shoot and if our schedule permits we'll try to attend a neighbor's cookout. Sunday evening we're going to see Further at Merriweather – I haven't seen them before and am excited, it's going to be a fun!

  1. I love those leopard flats! I’ve been wanting to try the pointy flats for a while and you may have just given me a necessary shove in that direction!

  3. I’ll be having a post on it hopefully within the week, but it’s using Neil George Detangler on wet hair, letting air dry, and then taking front sections and with a curling iron curling away from the face, scrunching once cool ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I love your hair here! ย It really flatters your face. ย How are you getting this great look?

  5. Awesome – thanks!  And hey … you don’t happen to have any posts on belt wearing in general, do you?  Like … when to do a thin vs. thick, when to put it over a shirt that isn’t tucked in versus letting the shirt hang free, colored versus neutral, and does it have to match shoes or bag or anything in particular?

BTW – I probably sound like I just learned to button my own clothes with these basic questions but I’m in my 40’s (your blog is very useful for late bloomers).

  6.  I think that rule has gone the way of white before Memorial Day.  I considered a belt but felt it would look a bit dowdy and too matchy-matchy.  Sometimes I will instead put a gold necklace through the belt loops, but that seemed to fussy for this.  These days there are few hard and fast fashion rules and as I have gotten older I look more to what feels right to me rather than what I learned growing up.  If you put together your outfit and think it looks complete without a belt I say rock it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Cute. I definitely had to take a closer look at the shirt pattern. From farther away it looks like drumsticks and I knew that couldn’t be right. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I’m intrigued – you are breaking something I thought was a fashion “rule” – if pants have belt loops then you have to wear a belt with them. But … these jeans have belt loops and yet, you aren’t wearing a belt.

Maybe this isn’t a rule after all? It would make my life easier, since I have limited belts and sometimes having to wear a belt limits my choice of top or shoes.

  11. For flats they are okay, only a hair shorter than I like (with flats they should go down to the sole, or for these the mini heel); I usually wear a bit of a heel so if I let out the hem they should fall to middle to bottom of the heel :). These days hems are practically ground-grazing, just short enough to keep them clean.

  12. Nice look!  I’m curious about the hem length….it looks like the jeans almost touch the pavement, but they should still be even longer? What is the correct length for jeans?

  14. We are on the same fashion wave length!  We both wore the red J Crew bubble necklace yesterday and my post today has leopard heels too.  I actually wore a similar Old Navy (sail boats) top that will be my post next week.

  16. Love the birdie top with the cat print shoes!  The weekend is gonna be a hot one so staying cool will be most important.
