Tonight I am going to a DC Fashion and Beauty Blogger event at Carbon DC so figured it was a good time to whip out my new skirt! I was dashing to the Metro after work but saw this beauty in the Ann Taylor window. They only had about six on the display, so I ran to the Petites section to see if they had more there. Carlos the manager was filling the department, had a rolling rack and on there was ONE of these skirts, and it was a 12 Petite! FATE! I grabbed it, ran to the register and headed home. So glad to try it on and see it fits! This skirt will surely be a fave through fall and winter, the texture of the material would look great with sweaters, tights and tall boots (if I can find a pair this year!).

Suede heels and a little clutch is perfect for a blogger meetup, but not for commuting from the ‘burbs to the heart of DC. That's why this is what I actually wore on my Metro trip:

Hobo purse – Banana Republic (no longer available – similar)

Not as lovely, but far easier to run up escalators to catch a train and space for my book (and of course my clutch and heels!).

  1. That skirt is awesome – you were right to grab it straight away!  Love the chambray shirt with it too.  I’ve not seen many of those shirts over here this summer, but I did have one years back.

  2. Unfortunately that skirt isn’t “not available yet” on the AT website – it already sold out! I bookmarked it and went back after a few days to buy it and it was all gone! So jealous that you got one.

  3. Thanks! I’ll have to try and find a chambray shirt – I think that I finally got rid of my old school heavy denim shirts from the 90s. And I’ll try it with black & white, too. I was hoping to find something in that color green, but no luck so far.

  4. Thanks Michelle!  The salesperson was totally talking up the skirt with a brown turtleneck and tall boots for fall, but I knew I could find something in my wardrobe that would make it work for July! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Thanks, you’ve given me enough ideas that I think I just may buy it! I think I just have to break out of my self-conceived mould and get a little more daring with mixing colour.

  6. You look fantastic!  I was looking through In Style in the supermarket line…and they had a page where they showed this orange skirt styled two ways!

  7. This is the beauty of a personal style post–having seen this photo, I was able to find you at the meet-up! Nice to meet you and perhaps I’ll see you at the next one ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. You look fab! Love the outfit with the pumps and clutch. Would never have thought about combining orange and teal and a crazy coloured (in a good sense ๐Ÿ™‚ clutch myself. But it looks so good on you. Love your creativity!

  9. Cute skirt! First thing I thought was a chambray or denim shirt! And even though there isn’t any black in it, you can still wear black. You can also wear white, and then make it look less white by pulling in color with a necklace or scarf or colorful shoes. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I love the bright colors on you!

I also have a question – I just bought this skirt (on clearance!) http://www.target.com/Merona-Collection-Cecila-Woven-Skirt/dp/B004OA246A/ref=br_1_18?ie=UTF8&id=Merona%20Collection%20Cecila%20Woven%20Skirt&node=13161001&searchSize=30&searchView=grid3&searchPage=1&sr=1-18&qid=1311867238&rh=&searchBinNameList=style_name%2Clifestyle-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1

But what do I wear with it? After getting it home, I discovered that I don’t have a single top to go with it – there isn’t any black in the skirt, so my standby of wearing a black shirt isn’t going to work. I’m open to any suggestions – thanks!

  11. I would wear it with black and not be too worried. But orange goes with a surprisingly great amount of colors – brown, olive, deep teal, deep purple, denim, navy, ivory, khaki. I also think colorblocking will work through the fall with colors like cobalt and bright crayon red, and then made fall with opaque black or brown tights. Even in fall it would be cute with a crisp white shirt and tall brown or black boots!

  12. One of my fave outfits you’ve ever worn!  I totally dig the orange and turquoise together, especially with the casual vibe of the chambray shirt.  You look gorgeous and I bet you were a hit at the blogger event!

  13. Love the orange skirt! I’ve actually been eyeing a similar one on the JCrew website. I love orange but I’ve been hesitating wondering how practical an orange skirt would be. I could see it in the summer as you wear it, with bare legs and a blue (or white) shirt but worried about how to pair it in the winter. I wear A LOT of black and don’t want to look like a walking Halloween billboard, i.e. black tights, boots/flats, black shirt, get it? Any suggestions?

  14. You look so nice! I would of never put that shirt and skit together but they look fabulous especially in the picture with the Heels.
