Alternatives to Amazon Subscribe and Save
A 2025 goal for me was to cut the cord with Amazon and diversify where I shop. I realized I use Amazon the most because of the Subscribe and Save program. It's so convenient to set it and forget it, and just when I need it, I get hand soap, dog treats, vitamins, brow pencils, body wash, razor blades, toilet paper, and more.
I have canceled every Amazon Subscribe and Save we had by finding alternatives to Amazon that also offer subscription programs. I rarely had to change the brand name to get refills and replacements auto-shipped on my timetable. Also, I found many of these alternatives to Amazon Subscribe and Save cheaper than Amazon!
Alternatives to Amazon Subscribe and Save
Below, I share alternatives to Amazon Subscribe and Save for three primary categories: vitamins and supplements, beauty and body care, and household products. At the bottom I have “Other” which are other places I have found subscription offers for regularly-needed items often found at Amazon. I know folks subscribe and save to many different categories, but these were the three main ones I needed to cut the cord from Amazon. I encourage you to share other options in the comments, and I will update this piece periodically.
After doing all this research, I wanted to share what I found with you. Maybe some of the Alternatives to Amazon Subscribe and Save will also help you cut the cord to Amazon, Target, Walmart, and other major corporations without sacrificing convenience and quality.
Where to Buy Vitamins and Supplements on Autoship
If you follow me on Instagram Stories or know us IRL, you're not surprised we were looking for a good place to buy vitamins and supplements online. We had already started shopping directly from companies where we used more than one product and/or they had autodelivery, but we still had a few Amazon subscriptions. The best Amazon alternatives for buying vitamins and supplements that I found:
iHerb
iHerb has been around since 1996. It has over 800 brands of vitamins, supplements, cleaning products, skincare, body care, beauty, and baby. A hassle-free 30-day return policy, customer reviews, and subscribe and save program makes iHerb a good alternative. The only issue is iHerb has partnered with Dr. Oz.
Swanson
If you prefer organic ingredients, Swanson is your place. While Swanson focuses on its own brand of products, you can still find name brands for supplements, OTC meds, protein powder and other fitness supplements, as well as shelf-stable groceries and beauty/body care.
Swanson offers a subscription program, though there is not always a discount for refills and shipping is only free if your subscription is $35+. Swanson started in 1969 in North Dakota, where it still resides. Swanson was bought by Swander Pace Capital in 2016. Swander Pace Capital is a private equity firm that also owns health brands like Bragg Live Food Products, Renew Life, and Mommy's Bliss
The Vitamin Shoppe
The Vitamin Shoppe, in business since 1977, is another online site where you can find vitamins, supplements, and natural remedies (including skincare). It offers auto-delivery, 10% off every order, and a lowest price guarantee.
However, The Vitamin Shoppe has free returns at any of its and Super Supplements stores, but if you don't have one near you, you are responsible for shipping costs to send back a purchase. I also found The Vitamin Shoppe has fewer popular brands than iHerb or Vitacost. Another concern with The Vitamin Shoppe's parent company filed for bankruptcy last year. (source)
Vitacost
Vitacost, which opened in 1994, is another alternative to Amazon for vitamins and supplements. Like iHerb, it expands from those categories to include beauty and personal care, home care and cleansers, baby products, and even pet products.
Vitacost has a 60-day return policy and also offers a subscribe-and-save program. Its selection of brands rivals iHerb; some are available, and others are not. The issue I see with Vitacost is that it is owned by Kroger.
Alternatives to Amazon for Subscribe and Save Beauty and Body Care
Athena Club
If you rely on Amazon, Target, or Walmart for razor, refill blades, and shaving products, I encourage you to check out Athena Club. Athena Club carries its own brand of razors, shave cream, and refills that are highly rated.
In addition to razors and shaving products, Athena Club offers body lotion, body wash, waxing supplies, and other body products. You can set subscriptions based on your timeline, and Athena Club offers subscriptions for all of its products.
Credo Beauty
Credo Beauty is one of the best places to find ethical, sustainable, vegan, cruelty-free, and “clean” beauty and body care. Marie Veronique, RMS, Westman Atelier, Tower 28, ILIA, OSEA, Kosas, WeledaโI could go on and on. And Credo offers items through a subscribe-and-save program!
Credo offers a 5% savings on any subscription, and all orders accrue points for free products, birthday gifts, and free shipping on orders $50+. I also appreciate the extensive customer reviews.
Dermstore
Sometimes, Dermstore is cheaper than Amazon, and sometimes, the price is higher. But you know you will get the real deal, and it will come from Dermstore, not a third-party seller working out of a storage unit. And Dermstore is where you can find high-end skincare, haircare, tools, and beauty, like Chantecaille, Oribe, and Sisley Paris as well as pharmacy brands like Bioderma, CeraVe, and La Roche-Posay.
Dermstore has auto-replenishment, where you can subscribe and save. And unlike Amazon, at Dermstore, you get rewarded for shopping there with points towards discounts and gifts in the future. This is where I set up my auto-ship subscription for Bioderma Atoderm body wash and Elta MD tinted sunscreen.
Farmacy Beauty
A popular sustainable, cruelty-free, and “clean” skincare brand, Farmacy Beauty is sold at major retailers like Sephora but is also available at the brand site. All the items at this link are available for a subscription. With each subscription, youโll save 10% on your subscription order, get free shipping, and earn loyalty points.
Fresh
The body and skincare brand Fresh offers skincare, body wash, lotion, hand cream, bar soap, lip balms, and more for auto-replenishment. This link lists all the possible subscription items. You will receive 10% off, free shipping, and each delivery will come with three samples.
Leaf Shave
While Leaf Shave is not a subscription service, it is a way to run out of blades less often while also reducing waste. The base razor from Leaf Shave lasts forever; you just replace the blades, and a 200-blade pack is small enough to tuck into the corner of your medicine cabinet.
I own a Leaf Shave razor and it works extremely well without needing special skill or care. I also really like the Shave Soap, which is a solid that lasts forever. It will “melt,” so I recommend storing it somewhere it doesn't get showered on and can drain.
Lume
If you use Lume deodorant, you can subscribe and save right from the Lume website and it's always free shipping.
Nรฉcessaire
If like me, you are a fan of Nรฉcessaire body washes, lotions, deodorants, and other beauty products, you can shop directly from the brand site and subscribe to automatic replenishment. Subscriptions are flexible, 15% off, and free shipping. And code ALISON gets you 15% off!
Prose
Prose is a company that creates custom skincare and haircare based on your specific needs. Cruelty-free, carbon neutral, and free of the worst ingredients, Prose is a popular brand for quality. All the products are available for subscription, and all subscriptions have free shipping and a 15% discount.
QVC
You may hear QVC and think of Quacker Factory sweaters, but QVC partners with some amazing beauty and skincare brands. Many offer an auto-ship option that also offers a discount on the price.
While not all the skincare, haircare, and beauty products at QVC are available for auto-ship, you can find the options at this link. Elemis, Sunday Riley, TATCHA, Tarte, Perricone MD, and more are available to sign up and get replenished at just the right time, and I find QVC's prices often cheaper than Amazon or even Sephora.
Sephora
Did you know that Sephora offers auto-replenish on almost any product on the site? You will see multiple ways to shop for each product: shipping, auto-ship, same-day delivery, and pick-up at the store. Sometimes, one or more of these options is grayed out. Still, I could find my favorite repeat products like brow pencils, mascara, moisturizers, and hair masks available for auto-ship. Auto-ship gets you 5% off, and these purchases go towards points.
Supergoop!
While retailers like Dermstore carry Supergoop!, the brand's site offers the biggest selection. Auto-replenishment is 10% off, and shipping is free.
Thrive Causemetics
One of my favorite “clean” beauty brands and the maker of one of the best tubing mascaras on the market, Thrive Causemetics offers all its makeup products for subscription. Free shipping, points accrued for future purchases, and it's easy to change or cancel, this is a great way to ensure you are never without your brow pencil or mascara.
Where to Buy Household Products on Autoship
Dish liquid, toilet paper, hand soap, water filters, laundry soap… it's really nice to set it, forget it, and have it arrive at your door just as you run out.
Blueland
Blueland is a company that offers eco-friendly hand soap, laundry detergent, and cleaners for the bathroom and kitchen. You buy the bottle once and then get concentrated tablets to mix your refills. This method reduces waste and emissions, as shipments are far lighter (and refills take up far less space in your home).
Blueland subscriptions have you save 20%, and shipping is free on orders over $50. You can adjust, delay, or cancel your subscription at any time.
Carewell
Carewell is a company that provides medical supplies, but also offers some well-known home and personal care brands for subscription auto-ship for 30% off and free shipping for orders $49+.
We're talking laundry detergent from brands like Tide and Seventh Generation, bathroom cleaners from Lysol and Clorox, dish soap from Mrs. Meyer's and ECOS, incontinence products from Tena and Poise, eye care from Systane and Opti-Clear, nutritional shakes from Ensure and Boost, hand soap from A La Maison Provance and Dial, Glad trash bags, Magic Erasers, Kleenex tissues and Cottonelle T.P., and more.
Dirty Labs
I learned about Dirty Labs a few years ago and have been a fan ever since. The company began with a sustainable bioenzyme laundry detergent that was concentrated and in aluminum bottles to reduce waste and emissions but worked well and smelled luxe.
Now Dirty Labs also carries dishwasher detergent and other eco-friendly products focusing on laundry. And this extension incudes fragrance-free options and products for delicate fabrics and delicate skin. Dirty Labs detergents are available for autoship with a 10% savings.
Grove Collaborative
It was hard to decide what category I'd use for Grove Collaborative, as you can buy eco-friendly OTC meds, vitamins and supplements, personal care products, baby products, kitchen tools, and much more. However, I have liked Grove for the subscription to eco-friendly cleaning essentials.
While Grove has its own in-house brand of products, you will also find popular sustainable and planet-friendly brands like Mrs. Meyer's, Bon Ami, EO Products, Method, and Nellie's.
Anyone can shop Grove Collaborative, but if you become a VIP ($29.99/year), you receive free shipping on orders $29+, special discounts and gifts, and more. \When you subscribe to a product, youโre guaranteed to get Grove's lowest price โ including 20% off your first Grove order and 5% off future deliveries.
Method
The best way to find alternatives to Amazon and Target is use a search engine to find the brand's website. So many times, the products are sold there, and that holds true for Method. And not only does Method sell its extensive product line on its site, it offers an autoship program!
Method carries body products like lotion, bar soap and body wash, hand soap, shampoo, and more. But Method is best known for its home cleaning products and hand soaps. Cruelty free and free of parabens and sulfates, Method's products are highly rated. Autoship subscriptions save 10% and shipping is free on orders $30+.
Public Goods
When looking for an SLS-free hand soap refill, I found Public Goods, which also carries body care, cleaning products, paper products, skincare, and much more. Public Goods uses organic ingredients, avoids toxic chemicals, and uses 100% recycled, post-consumer plastic bottles, biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastic, and tree-free paper.
Public Goods offers its products for sale to anyone, but with a $49/year membership, you get 20% off purchases including subscriptions and free shipping on orders $45+. So far, all I have tried is body wash and hand soap, but the scent is fresh/citrus/herbal that smells expensive and the quality is quite nice.
The Laundress
Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd cofounded The Laundress in 2004 and it became a cult favorite for high quality fabric care products. Wash for delicate fabrics, laundry tools, and cleanging products in beautiful, elegant scents and packaging. Unilever purchased The Laundress in 2019 but it continues to be a favorite when caring for delicate fabrics.
Autoreplenishment is available for products sold on The Laundress site. With each autoreplenishment, you receive free shipping regardless of the total price, and you earn points towards future orders.
Alternatives to Amazon Subscribe and Save for Other Needs
While doing the research for the above three categories, I found some other places that offer subscribe and save or general subscription programs:
- Air Filters: There are sites out there where you can set up to have the exact air filter you need arrive at your front door right when it's time to change one out. Filter Easy is the lowest price, offering most any size and level of filtration with its own in-house filters. Filterbuy is another option that carries only its own brand of filters, but gets higher reviews for quality than Filter Easy (which explains why it is so much more expensive).
- Baby Needs: Honest has a diaper and wipes subscription program and a just wipes program, and you can also gift a diaper subscription to parents or guardians.
- Incontinence Products: Along with Carewell listed above, check out HDIS which carries most of the major brands and styles of products with a 5% save and subscribe program. HDIS also has some name-brand products also available for autoship like Cottonelle toilet paper and wipes.
- Menstrual Products: You'd be surprised how many menstrual products companies offer autoship options straight from their product websites.
- August is a sustainable menstrual company that lets you design a custom box of pads, liners, and tampons to be delivered on your schedule. You also get to pick what charity gets 1% off the profits from your purchase.
- CORA offers organic menstrual and bladder care, and all disposable options, such as tampons, liners, and pads, are available for Subscribe and Save.
- Grove Collaborative carries organic menstrual brands like CORA, The Honey Pot, and Natracare and as stated above, offers autoship.
- LOLA is a woman-owned brand that carries menstrual and bladder products, as well as sexual wellness products, and all the disposable options are available for subscription delivery.
- The Honey Pot is a Black woman-owned company that focuses on plant-based menstrual care. Disposable products are available for autoship.
- Pet Needs: Chewy is the place for autoship for your pets, anything from food to meds, litter to aquarium filter cartridges. We get our dog's toothpaste and treats on autoship through Chewy, and not only is the price cheaper, but Chewy supports animal rescues and shelters across the country.
- Toilet Paper and Other Paper Products: Let's face it, the pandemic taught us it's a good thing to have a supply of T.P. at the ready. Keeping such a supply is far easier with auto-ship. While I've shared a few companies that offer toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, and other personal paper products, here are some more:
- Charmin: Charmin offers a subscription program for its Forever Rolls. Larger than a typical roll or toilet paper, a Forever Roll should last for a month. The starter kits come with either a wall-mounted or floor-stand roll holder and also offer a free roll extender tool for your existing toilet paper holder (just pay shipping).
- PlantPaper: PlantPaper offers FSCยฎ Certified bamboo toilet paper and facial tissue that is 100% lab-certified bleach, formaldehyde & PFAS-free. Subscriptions get you $10 and fast free shipping.
- Save Trees: Save Trees offers 100% bamboo toilet paper, paper towels, and facial tissues. Save Trees ships in bulk, but will replensish your order on your schedule and shipping is always free. Save Trees is a great option for businesses, offering discounts for larger orders.
- Who Gives a Crap: Who Gives a Crap is a Certified B Corp that offers more eco-friendly options for toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, and bags for trash, compost, and pet waste while donating 50% of its profits to improve access for all to clean water and toilets. And Who Gives a Crap offers a toilet paper subscription.
- Trash Bags: While above companies sell trash bags, Bag Ups specializes solely on biodegradable trash, lawn and leaf, and pet waste bags. Using recycled packaging, Bag Ups is sustainability and ethically made in the USA, packed by veterans and people with disabilities. Subscribing saves you 20%.
Clearly, this doesn't cover everything that folks subscribe and save with at Amazon. However, I hope it shows you that there are many options out there beyond Amazon, Target, and Walmart that will still make your life easier without spending much more.
As previously mentioned, I would like to keep this as valuable a resource as possible. In the comments, share where you find your favorite products available for autoship, and if I didn't feature your product, let me know what it is and if I can find an alternative, I'll update this page accordingly!
Thanks so much for this research! I am a fan of the Dermstore for my Elta MD sunscreen as well (on autoship) and wanted to mention Primally Pure which is where I source my natural deodorant also on autoship. I have used Puracy for laundry items and hand soap but might checkout Blueland. So many other options.
I also use Puracy and last week ordered directly from them. They do have a subscription option, but I just went with a regular order, which had free shipping over $30, and my order arrived in 3 or 4 days
What is your motivation for stopping Subscribe and Save? I couldn’t really tell from this piece. If it’s to cut ties with a giant corporation or for political reasons or to break a monopoly, I get it. Otherwise, though, I don’t see the point. Ordering 10 things in one box with one truck delivering, as opposed to ordering 10 things from 10 companies with 10 boxes and 10 trucks seems inefficient.
Exactly the reasons you mentioned. I didnโt clarify because I feel a lot of folks have different reasons for choosing other places to shop and I wanted to offer a resource not a sermon. And am I the only one who has asked for one box and shipping day from Amazon yet the items come in separate boxes defeating the purpose?
Alison, you are definitely not the only one requesting everything in one box from Amazon, and then having them clutter up your doorstep with multiple boxes arriving in succession—not to mention the toll on your time and energy, and the aggravation of answering the door and dealing with recycling the packaging. I too have been ordering from other sources as much as possible these days. Thanks for this valuable list.
This is a fabulous resource! Thank you for doing all the leg work (aka Googling) for us! I will be sharing this a lot.
This must have taken forever to compile, thank you so much for doing the leg work. I canceled our S&S for March and this has motivated me to start changing up.
Thank you this is just the list I needed.
I used Vitacost for a long time, but finally stopped because there was always a problem with my order: wrong items would be shipped, I would choose and pay for faster shipping but it be sent smartpost, discount codes would not work, etc. I stopped my autoships a few years ago, but every once in awhile try them again. There is still a problem every time and the dollar amount can be significant.
Very helpful. I forgot all abut Vitacost! I cancelled my Amazon Prime membership on principle. But it will also stop me from making small impulse buys, encouraging me to keep inventory lists for replenishment and shop less frequently. Also, if I do need to buy something from Amazon, there is still free shipping over 35.00 and it comes in two days anyway.
