Feeling patriotic again? You're not alone; after years of a dark cloud over me and my country, I feel something I haven't felt in a while… hope. The past few years have had me avoid patriotic apparel. But, lately, I really want chic American flag sweaters to wear now with linen and denim shorts on breezy evenings, to wear this fall with jeans, this winter with a button-front shirt and a pair of trousers, and come warmer weather with linen or lightweight chino pants.

12 Chic American Flag Sweaters for Women

If you're jonesing for similar, I searched out chic American flag sweaters that will look great now and for years of patriotic holidays, election days, and inaugurations to come.

Patriotic Flag Sweaters for Grown Women

A collection of patriotic flag sweaters for grown women that will last. Quality materials, manufacturing by trusted brands, and silhouettes that will remain stylish for many election years and Independence Days to come.

I'm writing this in the summer, soon after Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee for president. Not only is it a time of shopping for patriotic fashion, it is the end of one fashion season and the soft opening of the next. Stock is low, and styles are not likely to be replenished.

However, with the hopeful energy coursing through our country right now, I expect to see many chic American flag sweaters and other types of apparel and accessories on-trend through fall and, I believe, through winter and into 2025. I expect within the next six weeks, several popular retailers will react by providing new styles of chic patriotic gear that can be worn beyond the cookout and the rally.

While the flag sweaters featured above are chic and versatile, please know that not only am I voting for Kamala Harris this November, a portion of the profits from Wardrobe Oxygen is already scheduled to weekly support her campaign and 50% of the profits from this blog post (ad and affiliate revenue the best I can track for the next 30 days) will also be donated to kamalaharris.com.

Chic Patriotic Fashion Supporting Kamala Harris for President

Desire stylish ways to support the next president of the United States? Below are chic patriotic fashion items that in some manner support Kamala Harris and a better United States of America. I encourage you to share additional resources, websites, shops, social accounts, and individuals that can help us look fashionable while we fight!

  • All Very Goods is a Black woman-owned and operated studio in Washington D.C. offering unique and stylish Bags, tees, stationery, and my favorite, scarves and bandanas. All Very Goods has a Kamala collection where every purchase will be donated to the Harris for President campaign. I am partial to this bandana in navy, this t-shirt in white or blue, and this kids tee.
  • If you desire a “childless cat lady” tee, why not get the one offered by the Harris Victory Fund? Personally, I think this classic navy on white option is timeless and would look far more modern when worn under your favorite blazer or cardigan. And this classic navy hoodie that is available in XS-4X will be one you will put on year after year and very likely a partner or younger relative will want to snag it for their own. I'm telling you, the more distressed it becomes the more chic. Wear it gardening, over your swimsuit for morning walks on the beach, throw it on for chilly nights on the track or heading to the gym. Pull it on for sunny mornings with a steaming mug while reading news that is once again boring and mundane.
  • The Outrage is an activism hub based in Washington, D.C. (and soon will have a new shop in Philly). With every purchase, The Outrage donates to progressive organizations. They also encourage people to register to vote and educate them on how to contact their representatives. This chic t-shirt would look excellent with light-wash flared jeans, camel wide-leg suiting trousers with a scarf as a belt, and under a slouchy cream linen suit. Available in sizes XS-4X.
  • The Blackest Co. is a Black-owned design studio and t-shirt shop in South Florida that donates to organizations like Black Girls Code and other Black-owned companies they believe in. This t-shirt would be a chic update to the similar shirt you may have purchased in 2016. Nine colors in sizes S-5XL. Pair the dark chocolate or navy with white jeans or trousers, dark wash denim, or a pink/berry toned skirt or suit.
  • Prinkshop creates wearable social advocacy created in the United States that raises funds for social advocacy programs. This tres chic bag evokes the boat and tote trend of the past year in a modern silhouette. With each bag, $100 will be donated to Planned Parenthood of Greater New York.
  • Social Goods is a U.S. sister-owned company that partners with several non-profits and civic organizations for positive change. As we know, crew socks are in fashion this year, and I think this is the chicest pair I've seen. In a very Clare V. vibe, this subtle yet stylish sweatshirt will be fashionable this election season and seasons to come. Style it with one of your slip or pleated midi skirts from previous seasons and a pair of athletic shoes (Nike, Adidas, or a pair of white sneakers).

This post will be updated at least once more before November and if there are enough chic options that give back, I will split this into two different blog posts. But if you're feeling the way I am feeling, there's a good choice you're considering updating your wardrobe in this manner and as always, I wish to be a positive resource!

  1. THANK YOU! I’m still not ready to wear flag apparel but love the Kamala stuff. I wanted a childless cat lady shirt that would contribute to the campaign so I really appreciate it!

After seeing Harris and Walz speak today, I’m starting to feel hopeful!

  2. Love this, and thank you for being a person who inspires hope, honesty and positivity in whatever you blog about. You have always been my first read of the day, and I salute you!

NO MA’AM, we are NOT going back!!

  3. Boom! Purchased the all very good Kamala shirt. Even more excited now that Tim Walz has been selected as her running mate. He is the real deal and their chemistry on the trail is going to be fire.

  4. I have enjoyed your blog but just unsubscribed, and I bet that I’m not the only one who has done so today. Totally disagree with you that Kamala is anywhere capable of being President, and I don’t want to read political content on a fashion/lifestyle blog.

    1. Thatโ€™s okay I understand. Iโ€™ve been sharing my political beliefs all 19 years and in most Weekend Reads posts and a lot of advice posts and all over my social media but I can understand that some may not have seen all of that.

      1. There are PLENTY of conservative bloggers out there for you to gel with, so bye Rocco! (bye Felicia is quite passe now)

  5. ooh, I have to be honest, I still remember how excited I was to buy merch in 2016 and wear a beautiful white silk sweater to the polls … and we all know what happened. I feel a little wary of leaning into the hope and clicking “buy” with the same optimism.

… but that bandana is calling my name.

    1. Yeah, I have a “Nasty Woman” t shirt from 2016 I cannot bear to wear. But I *am* a childless cat lady…. and also, I just straight up donated to the campaign.

  6. Oh, I am so happy I kept reading this post! Thank you for sharing these options with us & I love that youโ€™re supporting Kamala Harris! Me too! Itโ€™s wonderful to feel the excitement and hope, isnโ€™t it?

  7. I appreciate your research as I always do. You have touched on a sensitive subject. No matter how much i might like a sweater or t-shirt, I am not going to purchase a flag garment that is not made in the USA. A USA flag garment made elsewhere seems hypocritical and contradictory to me.

    1. BTW, if I find some garments with flag designs that are made here, I will list them. They are not easy to find.

    2. I was just stopping by the comments to say the same. It made me think of how difficult I’ve found it to shop for stylish American-made clothes and I’d love for Alison to feature some American-made options, when able.

    3. American Giant! They donโ€™t have any flag stuff now, but they do a special edition for July 4th each year. Plus this year they did a version for Walmart. And they do a โ€œMade in Americaโ€ series highlighting other made in America brands

  8. Appreciate your sneaky approach, these are excellent resources!! Looking forward to more campaign merch!!

  9. Thank you for this! I have been looking for some cute Kamala tees and you read my mind! Women for 2024!!

  10. As a blond white woman my metric for patriotic clothing is “do I look like I’m about to disrupt a school board meeting in this?” I found a cute Land’s End patriotic print sundress in my size at Goodwill, but regretfully after applying this guideline had to leave it on the rack!

Clever Alison getting around the algo…my husband works in political comedy and is really struggling with that reality!

  11. Between the Olympics and fresh-voiced Kamala, I’m feeling that hope as well. I don’t usually go for the patriotic clothing, but these sweaters are nice!

  12. Appreciate your post and very much agree with your message about feeling far more positive. Itโ€™s time to take back the flag!

  13. Thanks for this, Alison

I initially didnโ€™t read this post, because Iโ€™ve never been into flag apparel. but then I saw from your IG that you also included campaign items, so I took a look. The r/w/b bandana had my name on it.

iโ€™m looking for a Weโ€™re Not Going Back Tshirt, but I havenโ€™t found one I like yet. But itโ€™s still early days, so maybe by the convention thereโ€™ll be some more choices out there.

    1. I was being a bit sneaky… political content has been hidden by algorithms and keyword blocking and I wanted to see who would read further down. And as more good merch gets on the scene and I do a bit more research I’ll make a separate post with just campaign merch!
