The past few weeks at work have been a killer. Early mornings, late days, hardly have time to heat up a Lean Cuisine for lunch. And today? Not a single meeting, no deadlines, no frenzy. I felt that called for a celebratory outfit, something that makes me feel as though the weekend is already here.

I love this dress from Lands' End – I threw it in the washer and dryer and it came out a bit wrinkled, but in a good “oh this is linen and linen wrinkles” sort of way. Though I must admit I took my hair flat iron to the straps to smooth them out enough to cover the bra!ย  And I shared the random picture of me talking to Emerson not just because I think she's a cutie and I love her sense of style (she now picks out her outfits from head to toe), but to show the back view of this dress, which I know I will be wearing weekly all summer long.ย  And did you see, the dress has pockets! Perfection!

This weekend we have a relative's 5th birthday and will be having a chill time for my husband on Father's Day. Do you have any fun weekend plans?

  1. LOL we’re dealing with that too. Also E likes to pretend she’s a belly dancer and will tuck her shirt or dress up under her chin and wiggle her tummy around. Yeah, she even will do it at the grocery store, the library, a bowling alley…

  2. Gorgeous dress – perfect for summer.

Your little lady is too cute! She sure does have style. We are starting to see hints of this with O, but for now she is more into removing the clothing that she does not want to wear.

  3. Cute, cute, cute!  I love how cool and refreshing your white dress is…. now, I must have it!!!

  4. Chiming in a day (or two later) to say I read your blog all the time!  We don’t share a personal style but I love your pictures, your combinations and I love to read what you have to say about the outfits and life.  You know what I SUPER love: your smile!  Your friend who responded to your belief that we ought to make an effort to look nice even going off to the store, by saying that this inspires others, could also have been speaking of your smile!  If i had a neighbor, co-worker, or friend with such a blazing smile, it would (and does) inspire me!  It speaks to confidence, to a positive outlook, and is inviting!  So it invites me to read right here!!!!!!

  5. That dress looks so pretty on you! I would definitely need a sweater with it, as my arms are always cold.

Today we have a big gardening project, and tomorrow we are going to spend time with our dads. Hope you all have a great weekend!

  6. This is a really cute dress.  I’m craving a summer white dress, but not having much luck finding one.

Love the way that Emerson is posed!  So grown up.  A true fashionista pose.

  7. Like mother, like daughter – you both look lovely! Using the flat iron on the straps – good thinking.

  8. I saw this dress at the mall awhile ago and wanted it… your post only makes me like it more!  I think the necklace you chose pairs really well with it, too.

Also, your hair looks especially good here.  What did you do to it / what product(s) did you use in it?

  9. Well I’m a 12 with a DD/F bust so I think it’s pretty good for a woman with a bust. The back is smocked so it has give and while it’s an empire waist, it’s low enough to accommodate a chest ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Aaahhh.. cool!  I love those shoes and I wish they were not out of my size on that web site.  (My feet are the only part of my body I wish were larger.)   That wrap is my favorite color in the world.  Another winner!

  11. I love that dress, and noticed that it’s on sale this week! Just a question – how do you think it would fit a busty figure? Am I going to look like I got lost on my way to the Little House convention? Or worse, pregnant? (I am NOT pregnant) I’m a generous figure, 14/16 but top heavy

  12. I love the white.  Also grooving on Emerson’s capris-and-Mary-Janes ensemble.  They should make that crown in adult sizes!

  13. The older I get, the more sparse my arm hair. I used to bleach it every month or so with Jolen Cream Bleach until around the time I had Emerson when I realized it wasn’t as intense as it used to be. I was always scared to shave, fearing it would grow back weird or have stubble. Instead I had platinum fur:)

Ah thinning body hair, a perk to aging! ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. What a lovely natural look! I do feel slightly jealous though that you can get away with not shaving your arms because your arm hair is so sparse even though your hair is dark like mine! =[

  15. I’ve been looking for a white sundress that I can wear a bra with. Can you tell me about the fit and what size you got?

    Robin

  16. it would have been my instinct to go with a bold eye, or especially a bright red lip with the white dress and neutral shoes, but i love that you didnt. you look naturally lovely, relaxed, and refreshed!

  17. Both you and Emerson look great! I see where she get her love of colour!
Thanks for the tip of using a flat iron for the little jobs – hilarious!!
