A couple months ago I was at a festival in town and saw these pants for sale in a booth. I figured they wouldn't fit, those “one size fits all” pieces rarely fit a woman over a size 10. But I looked at them more closely and my sister encouraged me to try them. The vendor let me take them into a nearby cafe to try them on in their restroom, I stood up on the toilet to see in the mirror, hunched over to see my reflection and thought from that odd angle that they were pretty cool… and bought them. I've worn them before, with an Old Navy vintage v-neck hanging out at home, and with this blouse to Dan Savage's recent book signing in DC (though that time due to the hurt leg it was with lower shoes). Did I NEED harem pants? No, but they are a heck of a lot of fun and quite comfortable in this heat!

  1. Okay, those pants are CRAZY COOL. Seriously, I’m loving them!! They look super comfy and I like that they’re just weird enough to be different, but they still look so wearable. I absolutely love them!

  2. Nice shout out to you on the Cabi Canary today!
Hope you wear more of their items in the future!

  3. Wow, these are all sorts of awesome on you! And your hair looks great! I am growing out my curly bob, and when I feel discouraged by the length, I look to your style for inspiration. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I haven’t been washing it very regularly. Like once a week I wash the scalp with watered-down shampoo, once or twice a week I wash with just conditioner, I’m air drying and using surf spray when wet and again when dry with a lot of scrunching. It kind of goes flat through the day but I think it will get better the longer I work on coaxing out the curl and letting it do its own thing. Good luck, growing out any cut is frustrating, but summer’s a great time since messy updos and ponytails are expected!

  4. I’ve been lurking on your blog for a couple of years now. Never have I felt so inspired to comment as I have with this particular post. WOW! That might be my favorite ensemble! Those pants are fantastic.

  5. I have to say, I like these a lot more than I was expecting too! I do think you have to be (to quote you) a true fashionista to pull them off, but in my opinion you are and you do. I would look like I was wearing pjs in public! I also would have no idea how to style them, so they would end up looking like a costume. Your hair is looking fab today too!

  6. I think they are awesome! SO original!

(PS I saw you got featured in the CAbi Canary this week – I was the reader who met Lisa at Scoop in January! Very exciting!)

      1. Yes! I follow her twitter now and hope I’ll bump into her in Portland in two weeks at the next Scoop. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I opened the page expecting to hate whatever you were wearing since you gave us the MC Hammer warning in the title, but I have to say, these pants look fantastic on you. They are extremely slimming and flattering. Would I buy them for myself?! Heck no! But you are seriously working them, girl!!

  8. Those pants are gorgeous and fit you perfectly — and your curls look lovely too. What a divine, elegant summer look — that looks comfortable and cool at the same time.

  9. Those are so cute! And they look like a socially-acceptable alternative to leaving the house in my pajamas!

  10. While this is not my favorite look on you (maybe with a more casual shoe? Flat sandal?) — one of the things I love about you is that you wear what you like. I truly think you rock, and that you’re pretty unique among “fashion” bloggers because of your variety and willingness to be playful, and share such a wide range. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I have been checking out these trousers but have not yet dared to try them on…. i have to say they rock ! i feel that i now have an excuse so try them on… because they look so good on you they just might look good on me.
