I straddle the line between regular and plus sizes; when it comes to sweaters I find plus size provides a better fit because it's cut to accommodate curves.  Come winter, I love long cardigans like this one from Halogen; for Casual Friday or a weekend, I wear it like this over slim jeans; during the work week I've paired it with a black ponte dress and tall boots and with my faux leather front pants and black heeled booties.  Not too much weight, but the merino wool provides warmth.  This day I decided to pair my smoky grey cardigan and jeans with some shiny accents – silver jewelry and booties.

wardrobe-oxygen-over-40-fashion-blogThe tank isn't jersey; a few of you asked after this SAHM capsule wardrobe where to find non-jersey tanks and shells and I like this one – it goes up to size XXL, has regular and petite lengths, a good mix of solids and prints, and a super price.  It has a pleated back and shaping so it's not tight, but it doesn't hang like a tent – great for layering under everything from suiting blazers to casual knits.  Shocker, it's also by Halogen, one of my favorite brands exclusive to Nordstrom that offers reasonably priced on-trend fashion in regular and plus sizes.

Nordstrom's plus size boutique, Encore, continues to grow in size and style.  Thinking about the events coming up on my calendar, I perused their holiday fashion options and was highly impressed (don't be surprised to see something from it on the blog in the near future!).  But they also have great every day wear in sizes 12W or 0X and up.  With brands like Vince Camuto and Sejour for workwear, NIC + ZOE and Persona by Marina Rinaldi for stylish quality separates, MICHAEL Michael Kors and Adrianna Papell for great dresses, and Melissa McCarthy Seven7 and City Chic for trendy looks; Nordstrom is one of those rare birds offering high quality, high style options in a great range of sizes.  Thank you Nordstrom, for sponsoring this post, but also realizing that women of all sizes deserve great style!

  1. You look great in this outfit. i love how you spice up your outfits with fun boots and accessories. Those silver boots are great. And the location you chose for your photos in this post is such a nice fit with the outfit.

  2. Very sleek look Allie- love it! Grey is one of my favorites. I have a question about tanks- I have a hard time finding them with high enough armholes so my “side boob” doesn’t show… any suggestions?

    1. It’s often all about where you get them. I find brands that have plus size options seem to factor in a woman’s curves better, even in the standard sizes. I get most of my tanks from Lands’ End, Talbots, and J. Jill and don’t find the issue. I chose this one in petite mainly for the armhole issue and it’s nice and high without being tight!

      1. Too bad it’s 100% polyester. I can’t wear poly next to my skin. If it’s in a mix, like ponte, then I can wear it in a skirt or blazer. But straight poly in a tank – can’t do it. It doesn’t seem to be a problem for you. That’s good because it gives you more options.
