Outfit 4 from the Holiday Capsule Wardrobe
I love having a dressy blazer in my closet. It's a quick way to glam up a simple black shell and trousers, looks fun over a graphic tee, can turn a work blouse and pants into festive attire. In my holiday capsule wardrobe, I included a red velvet blazer from Talbots. While red velvet can feel very much like Santa's uniform, this blazer's classic silhouette and luxe fabric makes it a great choice for the holidays and beyond.
blazer | shirt | pants | clutch | shoes | earrings | ring
Blazer: Velvet Blazer c/o Talbots (14p) | Shirt: Perfect Shirt c/o Talbots (14P) | Pants: Stretch Crepe Tuxedo Pants c/o Talbots (14P; plus size alternative) | Shoes: c/o WHBM (old; similar) | Bag: c/o Talbots (old; similar) | Earrings: Kenneth Jay Lane (old; similar) | Ring: Sceptre Pave Ring c/o REALM
This look is essentially what I wore in my last outfit from the capsule wardrobe. Switching out the blazer and unbuttoning a few buttons on the shirt gives a more relaxed vibe that would be great anywhere from a holiday cocktail party to a networking event. After the holidays, the red blazer can feel fresh with a Breton top and trouser jeans, paired with a cream turtleneck and trousers, styled with a band tee and denim. Add non-holiday details like a leopard print belt or loafers or consider styling with hot pink to embrace a popular color combo trend for the season.
At the time I wrote this post this weekend, the velvet blazer was sold out. I'm thrilled to share it is back in stock in Misses, Petite, Plus, and Plus Petite sizes and is available in black as well as red. that being said, I pulled together a great selection of more velvet blazers in all sorts of colors, styles, sizes, and pricepoints for you that I think are fabulous:

My goal with this holiday capsule wardrobe is to start thinking how you can wear pieces in multiple ways to extend your closet. No need to buy a new look for every occasion; with carefully selected items mixed with what you already own, you can achieve so many different outfits with fewer purchases. And if you shop right, the pieces for your holiday outfits can still look quite chic through Spring and for years to come!
As of this morning it looks like that red velvet blazer is back in stock at Talbots. Maybe they got more?
Woo hoo, thank you Tippy! The post is updated.
Very nice! Over the weekend, my mother wore her red blazer with an ivory turtleneck and ivory slacks, which looked surprisingly chic. Wanted to throw that out there as a possibility for another way to wear a red blazer.
Yes, that’s a great combination
