Thursday: Ponte Party
I love me some ponte knit. I think that's pretty clear from reading even one post of this blog. I wrote about needing a new photographer's assistant dress and was hoping for a black cotton shirtdress with pockets. I never found one that was right, and bought this dress on a whim from Nordstrom last October. When I was still sans dress and we had a destination wedding to shoot in November, I took this one and it was perfection. It doesn't have any pockets, but the heavy ponte hid sweat, didn't crease and stretch out after 12 hours of wear and running around, and was utterly comfortable. I ended up wearing a *GASP* fanny pack with this dress for the shoot and it was even better than having loaded-down pockets because I could more easily squat and kneel to get the right shot or to fix the bride's dress. Since then, I wore this same outfit with different shoes but haven't featured it on the blog. I love how this outfit is stretchy and comfortable yet looks refined. I swear, I could live in ponte knit every day of the week.
I bought this jacket because of how fabulous you look in it- it is in transit to my house right now. I love that it is stretchy, but still has structure.
Awesome, hope you like it! It dresses down nicely too, I like with a striped or plain white tank and jeans ๐
I am in LOVE with those boots! i have missed heeled boots this winter. But heels, pregnancy and my puffy feet (oh the glamour) do not mix well.
Love the dark lipstick on you! I love a dress with pockets… so practical ๐
You are right – when you are working you want to look well put together but comfortable!
Love your glasses; can you tell me the brand?
Sure! The style is “Gloss” by Lafont, it’s their Issy and La collection ๐
Looks like a great dress and I love the jacket!
Darn it! The dress is back ordered!
LOVE!
P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N!!! ๐
I like this dress a lot. I loved the leopard heels in the instagram shot too. These wedges are very cute, I like the zipper up the back.
How are these booties to walk in, as a shorter woman? I have a pair of 4″ pumps and I’m almost despairing of ever learning to walk smoothly in them. Tell me there’s hope!!! (I’m 5’2″.)
WAY more easy than standard heels. The wedge gives stability and I can walk with a strong stride. Wouldn’t stand in them for hours but not painful and easy walking
I love this outfit. And your hair. And your glasses. And your lipstick. You look smoking hot and professional and chic and I just can’t say enough good things about this one.
I love this all black look. AND I especially adore it when you paired this look with those FAB leopard heels!!!!!!

That is so 150% *you*! I love the mix of sassy, cheeky elegance. It may be all black, but it’s worlds away from boring. And a hat tip to you on ponte – I’m loving it too.
Oh come now, that fanny pack looks way too much like Classy Professional Photog Gear to really be a fanny pack! At least not in the dreaded ultra ironic way we tend to think of them! Well anyway, you surely do look fab. ๐
Eh, you can’t be so sure. I actually bought it at CVS that day for $6.99 and it had “Florida” written on it in white script! ๐ At least it wasn’t patchwork leather or neon…
LOVE IT!
Love the shape of the dress, and it works well with the jacket. I’m a bit fan of ponte knit too, and wear something ponte most days during the cooler months.
I love this dress! It reminds me of a black ponte knit dress I had in the 80’s (I’m NOT saying the style is anything like this!). It came with a matching jacket and I wore the crap out of that thing. Unfortunately, after two babies (um, they are kinda men now), I don’t have the figure to fit into it. I’m thinking I need to get this! Love it with the botties too.
It’s a bit hard to see in the photos, but the skirt is pieced which gives it such great shape. While there’s a seam at the natural waist, it doesn’t cut me in half. There’s also an exposed zipper on the back of the dress, but of black metal so it’s not too obvious and makes it easy to dress up and down. I think this style would be great in the ’80s, I know I had something similarly shaped in the early ’90s and I love it now! ๐
