Tuesday
Purple merino dress from Goodwill, tan Bern boots from Duo, silver cuff and hoops, silver pocketwatch necklace (extended with silver choaker necklace) from Ann Taylor Loft, silver chain with amber pendant from Bermuda, silver chain from Rennaisance Festival.
Hair is washed and conditioned, a bit of Sexy Straight Hair's Shine On! added while damp. Blown straight with paddle brush and then a round brush to the edges and a touch of Jonathan Silky Dirt added for separation and shine.
Makeup is L'Oreal true Match concealer in W4-5, philosophy's The Supernatural in Beige, Cargo Matte BeachBlush in Tenerife, Revlon ColorStay shadow quad in Neutral Khakis – ivory in inner corners, khaki on lid, chocolate in crease and along lash lines. Lashes curled, two coats of DiorShow mascara in black. On lips is Body Shop lip color in #12, which I believe is Damson.
For the morning I also wore my avocado green pashmina looped around my neck – hid the belly pudge and with my tan leather hobo purse from Banana Republic felt very bohemian. But jsut got back from lunch and it's like 75 degrees out now so the scarf is now thrown over a chair in my cube.
The dress is a great find. I live in a DC suburb too. Can you share which areas/localities have Goodwills with nice items.

That is the best thing I have read all day! Thank you so much for letting me know that! Yay to you rocking out your true self (and a dress over jeans!) ๐
Allie, I’ve been a long-time lurker now on both of your sites – Not only have you helped me to be happy with the clothes I have, you’ve given me the courage to try some quirkier looks – Today I wore a sweater dress over jeans, inspired by your shift over jeans last week. I probably never would have tried it otherwise, but I wasn’t in a boots or tights mood with the dress… and I love the look! Thanks!
I bet the purple dress and the green scarf looked great together. Kind of like Sangria and guacamole—a great combination on a hot fall day( Forgive me,I must be hungry). Also, I love the pocketwatch!
With the necklace, I actually used a very chunky choker necklace (think semi like a dog’s choke collar) because it is the shortest necklace I have. The clasps did conenct though they were very different. I have done this in the past with an old chain bracelet I had, but the bracelet brokea while ago.
1. I apply it to my fingers then over the face sort of like a serum – a pea sized amount or less is all I seem to need. I let it sit a bit – say apply, brush teeth then apply foundation and such.
2. I have used it with liquid, powder and mineral foundation with success. The version I use is clear, so have even worn it with bare skin and it seems to even out the skin tone enough to look less undone sans foundation.
3. I think it’s worth it – a little goes a long way. I got two travel tubes of it – one in December and one in January and I still have product left (though I only wear a couple times a month). It works better than other primers I have used (Body Shop, Paula Dorf) and doesn’t clong my pores. I feel confident on a long day like a wedding shoot or a night out where I may sweat that my makeup will alst longer and my face stay fresher looking longer with this product.
And I have my sister to thank for recommending this product in the first place! ๐
I have a question about the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer you use sometimes. I saw an ad for the new Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer and I have never used a primer before. The new one is for oily skin (ME!). Just curious if you could explain the usage of it. Before you put on foundation? Does it work with mineral makeup? Is it worth the price tag? Thanks!!!
beautiful. i’m mighty jealous of that purple dress. i’ve been looking one for myself. a purple top or dress. i really must after seeing this.
What a great find from Goodwill! Love the plum dress and a fab color on you!
So you made a longer necklace by fastening together two shorter ones (I assume that both had the same kind of clasp?) What a neat idea!
Blogger’s being a c*nt over at my place, too. Boo to Blogger.
