What I Wore: Warm Neutrals
When it gets as cold as it did yesterday, jeans are the last thing on my mind. I just don't find them warm or wind repellant enough to keep me comfortable in the depths of winter. My favorite way to dress this time of year is with sweater dresses, fleece tights, and tall boots.
Dress: Topshop – ON SALE! (12; plus size option) | Tights: Berkshire | Boots: Ros Hommerson (old; similar) | Earrings: Jenny Bird | Coat: Tommy Hilfiger c/o Macy's (0X; straight size option) | Bag: ALLSAINTS | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
This sweater dress is purposefully oversized and really soft and cozy. Because it's oversized it's easy to layer underneath for more warmth. I love wearing full slips under sweater dresses so it doesn't cling and also it helps fight wind. Fleece tights are my go-to in winter; they aren't as stretchy as traditional tights so I usually size up so I don't end up with my crotch near my knees by noon. These boots are a decade old. The elastic is a bit shot, one zipper won't unzip, and they've been reheeled and resoled more times than I can count but I don't retire them because I have yet to find anything quite as perfect. I had these tailored to better fit my legs, but they're real leather, lined, a comfortable heel height, a slim heel, and an almond toe. Classic and chic, I have no idea why boot retailers don't make this style more often!
This coat was featured in this blog post and is a favorite. It makes any outfit look more polished, has a great fit, and deep pockets to hold lip balm, gloves, my phone, and more.
I love this look! I have a sweater dress that I tend to forget about, but this makes me want to wear it! I love the idea of a full-length slip to prevent clinging. I think this dress would be cute with jeans and booties too ( when it gets a little warmer, which I hope will be soon)!.
This color scheme is glorious. HNY Ally ๐ Only good things your way.
Thanks so much Lorena!
i just ordered the dress…hope it works out!
I live in NYC and as I was walking home from the gym the other day, I thought about how much I missed my knee high boots and that even though they are no longer in style, I may just take them out and wear them this winter because they keep your legs so warm. Ankle boots just can’t achieve that.
Thanks for reminding me about my fleece-lined leggings. I haven’t been able to wear them for years since we have had such mild winters. They will be good for running errands with my knee high boots.
As an FYI, if you want an extremely warm coat, I highly recommend the Lands End Commuter Coat. I just bought it (50% off!) and it is the warmest coat I have ever put on.
